An event on par with Christmas in the West, Diwali is celebrated all over India and by Hindus the world over. It means, literally, ‘Festival of the lights’. For tourists to India during Diwali- a five day period at the end of the Hindu month of Ashwayuja, typically falling in late October to mid November- this might not be (ironically) the best time to visit. October Festival, Guadalajara.Americas Guadalajara Mexico Culture 2011 October -November
In 1965, the powers that be in Guadalajara, Mexico`s second largest city, decided to inaugurate a festival promoting culture, food, music and dance of the Jalisco region (of which Guadalajara is the capital) to promote tourism to the city. The resulting "Fiestas de Octubre" or "October Festival" has been going strong since then, and is one of the most entertaining and popular festivals in Mexico. read more |
